,.

AREA STODIED

This report covers an area along the Cache La Poudre River within
the City of Fort Collins and in adjacent areas of Larimer County. '!he
study area began at Horsetooth Road downstream of Fort Collins and
extended upstream through the City to the south end of Watson Lake.
The study reach has a stream distance of approximately 13.8 miles.
The area of the study is shown in Figure 1.

Source of Data
Orthophotographic mapping with two-foot contour intervals at a
scale of one inch to tWo hundred feet was provided by the Ci ty. HEC-2
models of the Cache La Poudre River through the study area were
available from the Corps' 1989 Special Flood Hazard (SFH) study
(Reference 1) on the Cache La Poudre River at Fort Collins. The HEC-2
models were originally developed by a consulting firm working under
contract to the Federal Emergency Management Agency and were provided
by the City of FOrt Collins, along with work maps showing the cross
section locations. Additional information on the stream bed
elevations in the vicinity of diversion structures was provided by the
City in June 1992.

m;INEERING METHODS

Floods having a recurrence interval of 10-, 50-, 100-, and 500-
years have significance for flood plain management. Because of this,
these floods were designated for study.

2

~.
