The plan includes a
combination of land treatment and structural measures that will
contribute directly to soil and water conservation, watershed protection,
and flood prevention. No irrigation developments and no ~hannel
realignments are involved.

The watershed covers an area of about 276 square miles
(176,640 acres) in Douglas, El Paso, and Elbert Counties, Colorado.
Approximately 12.4 per cent of the watershed is cropland; 76.1 per
cent is grassland; 10.6 per cent is forest and brushland; and 0.9
per cent is in miscellaneous useage, such as roads, schools, farmsteads,
and the towns of Frankto,vn and Parker.

The work plan proposes a five-year program for the protection
and development of the watershed at an estimated total project cost
of $1,180,338. The Public Law 566 share of this cost is $812,650.
The "other" or local share of the cost is $367,688 (Table 1). In
addition, local interests will bear the cost of annual operation and
maintenance, estimated at $4,679.

,
