Stale of Colorado 1276-DR-CO
Inleragency Hazard Mitigation Team Report

July 1999

Recommendations

ISSUE: Acquisition of flood-prone structures

BACKGROUND: Several communities have structures in regulatory floodways that
were damaged from this flood event. Moving people and
structures out of harms way has proven to be cost-effective and
allows stream and rivers to function properly. This event provides
the opportunity to restore the floodplain function in high flood-
prone areas to minimize risk to people and property.

RECOMMENDATION: 1. Identify repetitive hazard-prone structures to relocate, elevate or
prolect.

2. Coordinate and work with local officials to develop plans that
identify high hazard areas/structures.

LEAD AGENCY:

Colorado Water Conservation Board
Colorado Office of Emergency Management

PARTNER AGENCY:

Department of Housing and Urban Development
Small Business Adminislration

TIME FRAME:

Initiate immediately

IMMEDIATE STEP:

Identify substantially damaged homes

PROGRESS:

1.
