Montrose County is generally supportive of the project because it will
offset some irrigation water charges. Delta County is generally against the project because it
will cause erosion problems in the river. The selected alternative would discharge flows into
the Uncompahgre just downstream of Montrose.

. In order to help with their GIS problems and to address Ridgway Reservoir issues, the
County is very interested in having a restudy of the FIS and subsequent DFIRMs.

. Development is almost entirely in the eastern portion of the county. There has been very
little growth in the western portion of the county.

. Growth in the Uncompahgre Valley is occurring in areas that are within existing water
districts, which is nearly the entire valley. However, not all of the streams in these areas
have been mapped. The County would like all streams within the water district boundaries to
be mapped. Generally, there is no development along the large gullies because they are
eyesores. A list of streams that should be studied will be included in the designation report.

. The County would like mapping in the western portion of the county. However, this is fairly
low priority.

. Canals intercept a significant amount of flood flows and convey the problems downstream.
However, the problems are typically "ignored" by the canal companies. Some of the
irrigation drainage laterals have been piped through the city of Montrose and affects local
drainage within the city. The city will be developing a drainage master plan soon.

. The County would like to establish setbacks along the floodplains.

. The northeast portion of the county primarily consists of the Uncompahgre Valley and
contributing watersheds while the southwestern portion of the valley consists of the Dolores
and San Miguel Valley and contributing watersheds.
