COLORAOO 81623

October 8, 1973

Mr. Larry Lang
Colorado Water Conservation Board
1845 Sherman Street
Denvar, Colorado 80203

Dear ;\,!r. Lang:

'fhe Town Council of Nlarble, Colorado passed at their
last meeting, a resolution requesting the State Water
Conservation Board to consider funding a Flood Plain
Study for the Marble Area.

'l'he 'l'own Oouncil feels that Marble Town may be sUbjected
to flood hazards due to the diversion of run-o~f water of
heavy snows or rains above the town. This was very much
apparent last spring and ea~ly summer when the div~rsion
into an active known lsndslide caused sddttional rift.

In the year 1909 Slate Creek was diverted by a lsndslide
from the West side of I\larble to an area bolow the Town.
In 1941 and again in 1945 sizeable landslides causes by
cloudbursts covered the center part of the Town itself,
and Carbonate Creek was di verted from its' course to the
East of Town into Beaver Lake, to its' present chennel,
which was the Town Ditch. For twenty eight years the
main course has not varied considerably until removement
of trees and natural growth and dis turbance of the soil
activeted the movement of the ,,,ancos Shale formations to
cause erosion in the newly disturbed areas.

Because of the hazards forseen in living below this area
of development we submit this request forlhe Flood Study
of this area.

Very: truly,

(Y~l'j @.6Jf
~~ue
Mayor of Marble

./

Town Council
of Marble

lb,(jk

963-3768
