8(5). All Hazard Shelter

Project Description:

The purpose of a shelter is to provide a space where family members can survive a tornado or
other severe wind event with little or no injury, The shelter should be readily accessible from all
parts of the house, and it should be free of clutter. To protect the occupants during extreme
windstorms, the shelter must be adequately anchored to the house foundation to resist
overturning and uplift. The connections among all parts of the shelter must be strong enough to
resist failure, and the walls, roof, and door must resist penetration by windborne missiles, It is
also recommended that a 72-hour kit of necessary supplies be kept in the shelter or, if this is not
possible, be carried into the shelter when in use, The Fort Morgan School District will construct
a small scale model depicting the shelter, and a life size model for display purposes, along with
printed material at public events throughout the County, Project Impact funds would be available
as seed money, in funding individual shelters,

Benefits: Increase the probability by life safety by 60%,

Project Actions Include:

.
