I

V 11-1

I

I

SECTION VII

PHASE A RECOMMENDATIONS
AND
PHASE B SPECIFIC DIRECTION

I

I
I

The consultants for the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (Wright-
McLaughlin Engineers) recommended a combined alternative plan as outlined in
Table VII-l reproduced from the Phase A Report.

The total Phase A
to $6.58 million.
Total improvement

construction cost of the combination alternative amounts
This includes $2.57 million for culverts and bridges.
cost, including rights-of-way acquisition, is $9,17 million.

I

The total annual flood damage reduction resulting from the implementation
of the project would be $3.56 million per year, based on Phase A dollars.

I

The 100-year planning criteria was recommended by the consultant throughout
the entire project.

I

The nonstructural (modified) strategy has been recommended for parts of Leyden
Creek and the upper most reach of Ralston Creek. These costs include cul-
verts and bridge upgrading to span the 100-year flood, The local entities
may choose to not improve the culverts and br idges in these four reaches which
would result in a construction cost reduction of $272,000,

I

I

Reach R-2 on Ralston Creek, from Pierce to Garrison Streets, is recommended for
a nonstructural strategy with culvert and bridge improvements, This recom-
mendation is based upon the fact that the flood plain is quite open along
most of this reach and this alternative represents a low level of capital ex-
penditure. The City of Arvada might also consider the use of short reaches
of channel within R-2, This would not change the overall recommendation for
the reach as a whole.

I

~;:;

I

I

The specific direction given by the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District
for Phase B is stated in the following letter, Additional direction was ob-
tained from the District and from Arvada and Jefferson County in progress
meetings, Section VIII describes the resulting alternative developed in Phase B.

I

I

I
I

,

I
