The U.S. Forest Service may have nurseries as welL
and The Upper Colorado Environmental Plant Center in Meeker, CO may be able to assist in
plant development.

Many of the site specific native plant species are not normally available commercially, but
some nurseries may agree to collect the native plant seed or cuttings and propagate them.
Otherwise, transplants will have to be collected from natural beds or stands of plants, moved
to the site, and planted. As previously stated, adjacent drainages offer a good source for
plant materials including several willow species, red-osier dogwood, water birch, common
chokecherry, to name a few.

Use of Entire Trees as Flow Deflectors and Other Structures

Native vegetation management can include the use of on-site trees to seNe as whole tree
deflectors. These have been established at the submerged toes of banks of rivers to slow the
current below the normal water line sufficiently to permit deposition of silt and thus prevent
scouring of the slope.

Exhibit A

Exhibit A provides several drawings for practices that may be installed for streambank
erosion protection, including the following.

.
