<br />July 9, 1990 <br /> <br />Surface Runoff in Adams County <br /> <br />Approximately 1.5 inches of rain fell over Adams County <br />Oooding fields. Water 4 inches deep Oowed across a 40 foot <br />area of Highway 79 for 3 to 4 hours. Witnesses report that <br />it took two trucks and three men 4 hours to haul away <br />debris from the flooding. At the time of the flooding, there <br />were no culverts or drainage ditches in the area. <br />Reconstruction of ditches were underway in February 1991. <br /> <br />Sources: Darl McClaren, Highway Patrol <br />Department of Highways Drainage Structure <br />Flood Summary <br /> <br />.July 9, 1990 <br /> <br />Local Drainage at Denver <br /> <br />A storm moving northeasterly over Stapleton International <br />Airport dropped 1.34 inches of rain in 1..5 hours. 0.60 <br />inches fell in the first 15 minutes. High water reached 10 <br />feet in some underpasses. At 38th and Wynkoop, a 13.5 <br />foot. overpass still had 7 feet of water one hour after the <br />storm. The Oooding seemed to be caused by insufficient <br />drainAge on the highways And rOAds. Injuries included <br />broken legs. Many CArs were Oooded or stranded. <br /> <br />Sources: Denver Post 7/10/90 <br />Rochy Mountain News 7/10/90 <br /> <br />Jllly 20,1990 <br /> <br />Dry Creek at Littleton <br /> <br />1..2 inches of rain fell in 30 minutes at in Littleton causing <br />Dry Creek to flood its banks. Damage included curbside, <br />sidewalks, popped manhole covers, stalled cars and flooded <br />intersections. The flooding was at its peak between 3:00 <br />And 3:30pm.
