September 2, 1990

December 28, 1990

Black Tiger Gulch near Nederland

Approximately 2.5 to 3.0 inches of rain fell in a two hour
period causing Black Tiger Gulch, a tributary of Boulder
Creek, to flood for the second time this season. The flood
carried trees, brush and rocks into the roadway blocking
traffic for three hours. Three inches of muddy water
covered the Highway 119 for 60 to 70 feet.

Source:

David M. Day, Department of Highways Flood
Structure Summary

Roaring Fork River at Basalt

An ice jam gave way in Snowmass Canyon above the town
of Basalt. The 4 foot high ice surge flowed through town
in approximately 10 to 15 minutes hitting town between 3-
3:30 p.m. There was no serious property damage reported;
however, the ice surge cleared the river of snags and logs.
The town manager compared the flood level to that of 1984.

Source:

Denver Post, 12/29/90

6
