Flood Staqe. The stage Or elevation at which overflow of the
natural banks of a stream or body of water begins in the reach or

area in Which the elevation is measured.

Flood~ay. The minimum area of the flood plain that is required to
convey a flood peak of a selected magnitude. This usually consists
of the most hazardous area of the flood plain where water velocities
are significant. Areas on the landward side of a floadway normally
convey little floodflow, although they are "inundated during floods.

Intermediate Regional Flood. A flood having an average frequenoy of
occurrence in the order of onCe in 100 years although the flood may
OCCur in any year. It is based on statistical analysis of stream-
flow records available for the watershed and analysis of rainfall
and runoff characteristics in the general region of the watershed.

Left or Right Bank. The bank of the left or right side of a river,
stream, or watercourse, looking downstream.

LowSteelot"lJndercle<lrance. The lo'.'est point of <l bridge or other

structure over nr across a river, strca~, or watercouroc t~t lL~itc

theop,mingthroughwl1ichwaterflOws.

Standard Project Flood. Thc flood that may be expected from the most
severe oombination of meteorological and hydrolo~ical conditions tr~t
is considered reasonably characteristic of the geographical area in
which the drainage basin is located, excluding extremcly rare combi-
nations. Peak discharges from these floods are generally about 40\
to 60\ of the probable maximum floods for the Same basins. Such
floods, as used by tl10 Corps of Engineers, are intended as practicable
expressions of the degree of protection that should be sought in thc
design of flo~l ~ontrol ~rks, the failure of whioh might be disastro~s.

"

R63W I R62\1/
I
I
.w.'

,
N
/
. . .
.~
tjm
. g 1.0
.
.
.
"r"",(.R
..u'" . -.
-fgj
"
.
.
. -----.-----
,
fMl ,
,
,
,

,
,

..-".

0,"00

"
~

.
.
.
. .

,
~'
,
~
--&

" .
. ,
, .
.
.

-

"
,"
"
.

"0

,
,
/ '
~1~ITorSTUD~

00..

/

'@l

,
,
.....--~
"

"
"
,
"
"
,-
"
".-----
\.
.,
\<:.
.-
r

/W

<::::J

I \
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I LEGEND

PLATE NUMBER OF
DETAIL SHEET
STUDY REACH
RIVER MILE
TOWNSHIP LINE

CRAVEL PIT

FLOOO PLAIN

I
I
I
R63W I R62W

OEPARTI.lE~T OF THE AR"'~
ALBIJQUERQIJE OI$TRICT,CORPS OF E~GI~EERS
AlBUOOERQuE ,NEW ~EXICO

T21S
--------
T22S

INDEX
SIXMILE

MAP
CREEK

VICINIT~ OF PIJElllO , COlORAOO
"",-.0 ," OM'"
OR{MBTh '975
