The diversity .of the WI Partners attests ta the <br />fact that it is a different way .of daing business, nat .only fc,r the DOW, Ibut far each .of the <br />Partners. <br /> <br />In and afitself; the WI is a cutting-edge, bald partnership that has b1azc:d new approaches, new <br />strategies, new techniques. The WI is demanstrating that entities with diverse interests, with <br />different missians and palicies, but with a camman gaal of canserving wetlands, can put their <br />differences aside ta wark tagether taward their camman ~;aa1. The W[ may became the madel to <br />use in canserving ather habitat types. <br /> <br />On anather level, the F acus Area lev~:l, the WI alsa selVes as a catalyst" and will selVe as a <br />demanstratian madel, far haw wetlands can be cansclVedl with the participatian .of the lacal <br />cammunity in a valuntary, non-regulatary fashian. Much of what has been mentianed abave is a <br />result .of the catalyst aspects .of the WI. Much afwhat will be accamplished in the future, much .of <br />the canselVatian .of wetlands that will happen, will be a resnlt .of the catalyst aspects .of the WI. <br /> <br />The WI advances many aspects afGOCO's missian. Through the WI, GOCO will help the <br />people of Colorado preserve, enhonce, appreciate, and eryoy its wetlands resource and <br />associated plants and wildlife. Clear:~, by being part of tlns endeavar, nat .only thraugh funding, <br />but by participating in its creatian and design, GOCO has selVed as a leading partner in the <br />preselVatian, pratectian, and enhancement .of wetlands in Calarada. TIle WI demonstrates ta the <br />peaple .of Calarada that there are ways and there are means by which tlley can canserve the <br />natural resaurces .of the State. <br /> <br />5. LEVERAGING AND PARTNEIRSHIP <br /> <br />A. Leveraging .of Funds <br /> <br />The mix and amaunt .of funding that is being provided by private and purblic sectar organizatians <br />far the WI is, indeed, impressive. If this Legacy praject is funded, wet:llmds praject funding will <br />increase fram an average af$250,000,$300,000 a year by all project partners ta aver $2,000,000. <br />GOCO funds will enable Calarada w~tlands prajects to leverage ather matching saurces that have <br />nat been previausly available due ta Ulck .of state matching funds. In additian, the WI has <br />generated extensive interest fram private landawners willing ta cantriburte use .of their land far <br />wetlands canservatian, restaratian and enhancement far tlle benefit .of wildlife. <br /> <br />15 <br />
