Procedure

. The general process of administering floodplain regulations
is outlined in Chapter 5 of "A Floodplain Management Manual for
Local Governments" included in the workshop workbook. The
following tasks are suggested to assist you in completing this
exercise:

1. Compare the site plan with the offical floodplain map
and see if the applicant's floodplain is in agreement.

2. Determine if the lOa-year discharge used by the
applicant is the same as in the county's study.

3. Determine which structures, if any, are proposed in the
high hazard area of the existing laO-year floodplain.

4,. Determine which strucutures, if any, are proposed in
the existing low hazard are of the lOa-year floodplain.

5. Compare the lOa-year floodplain boundaries and
velocities before and after development and determine
if adverse impact might occur to the development or to
other property owners.

6.

Estimate the potential flood damages under lOa-year
flood conditions after development takes place.

.

7 .

Estimate the annual flood insurance premium for a
typical structure in the low hazard area.

8. Considering the original intent of the applicant or any
other positive benefits to the county in developing
this site, make a list of ideas or floodplain
management options available to the applicant which
could be used to modifiy the proposal to reduce
potential flood damages.

9. Make a list of conditions, if any, which you recommend
the applicant satisfy before a building permit can be
issued.

WPS/bm

-3-

.
