SETTING <br /> <br />Purpose <br /> <br />The purpose of this exercise is to give workshoo <br />participants practical experience in assessing flood hazards for <br />proposed development in an urban setting. <br /> <br />Objectives <br /> <br />. To determine if a proposed action will take place in a <br />100-year floodplain. <br /> <br />. To establish existing 100-year flood boundaries and <br />velocities for a project site before development takes <br />place. <br /> <br />. To assess anticipated changes in 100-year flood <br />boundaries and velocities due to the proposed <br />development. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />To evaluate the .impact of flood hazards on the <br />proposed development and on other property owners. <br /> <br />. To estimate the annual flood insurance premium <br /> <br />. To identify cost effective floodplain management <br />alternatives which will mitigate potential flood <br />damages. <br /> <br />. To make recommendations regarding a decision on issuing <br />a building permit. <br /> <br />Situation <br /> <br />You are the floodplain administrator of a growing Colorado <br />city reSpOnsible for making recommendations to the planning <br />commission on proposed development Which might be in the <br />floodplain. <br /> <br />.:- <br /> <br />A preliminary proposal tq develop a 10 acre vacant parcel 'on <br />the banks of the South Platte" River has been received by the <br />planning department and referred to you to make a detailed <br />development review. <br /> <br />. 'The applicant proposes to develop the site into a small,' <br />business' industrial-' park to be known as "Riverview Park".
