dty street in a presently undcveloped area and is only required to convey
runoff from the lO-year design storm (41 CFS). It is recommended that this
culvert be replaced with a 36-inch CMP culvert with a minimum headwater
depth of 4 feet. Runoff in excess of that generated by thc lQ-year stnrm will
overtop the street and flow directly into Cripple Creek.

,.

Existing structurc no. 63 is a small arch type concrete bridge on the Higbway
67 crossing of the main channel of Cripple Creek. This bridge has a capacity
of approximately 400 CFS, but runoff from the loo-year design storm event
at this location is 1,920 CFS. Approximately 17 feet of headwater is available
at this location. Based on available headwater, it is recommended that a 10-
foot high by 12-foot wide reinforced concrete box culvert complete with
headwalls andwingwalIs be installed at this location.

9.

Existing structure no. 62 (56-inch culvcrt with 5.5 feet of headwater) is a
conduit installed on the main channel of Cripplc Creek southeast of the
intefM:ction of Warren Avenue and Third Street. Thi, culvert has an
available capacity of 125 CFS, hut the runoff associated with loo-ycardesign
storm event at this location is 1,865 CFS. It is recommended that this culvert
bc replaced with a 10-foot high by 14-foot wide reinforced concrete box
culvert complcte with win~,'walls, headwalls and a minimum headwater depth
of 13 feet. As this crossing is a driveway crossing of thc channel, detailed
design may allow for use of a smalkr culvert along with installation of a
'Tcxas Style" driveway crossing. Those modifications will be dependent on the
impacts of flood water on adjacent properties.

10. Existing improvements along Third Street include culverts, inlets and storm
sewer piping. Exis\lng culvert numtlers 24. 41'1, SO and.'\l are accepiable.
Beginning in the alley hclwecn Bennett Avcnuc and Carr Avenue and
proceeding Mluth towanJs Warren Avenue, thc existing culverts. inlets and

\11-19

storm sewer piping in Third Street are inadequate for reasons discussed in
Section C, Second Street Trihutary. A new storm sewer system in the area of
Third Street and Bennett Avenue is recommended. This new storm sewer
system should eonsist of the following:

,.

A new to-foot curb opening inlet placed at the outlet of culvert
numbers 80 and 81 on the east side of Third Street between Bennett
Avenue and Carr Avenue.

b.

100 lineal feet of 1S-ineh storm sewer outfall should be installed
between the inletdeseribed in a. above to Bennett Avenue.

,.

A5-foot curb opening inlet should be installed at the northwest corn er
of Bennett Avenue and Third Street while a 1O.foot curb opcning inlet
should be installed at the nortl1east corner of the intersection.

d.

From the inter~ecti()n of Third Street and Bennett Avenue. a new
30-inch RCP storm sewer outfall should be installed extending
southerly until it crosses Warren Avenue and discharges into the
existing channel. Approximately 700 lineal feet of 30-inch RCP outfall
will be required.

,.

A ncw 5-foot curb opening inlet should be instaUed on each side of
Third Street immcdiately north of Masonic Avenue.

VI-20
