<br />have been made to provide a limited degree of conveyance for flood- <br />fl ows . <br /> <br />Structural improvements along the downstream portion of Goldsmith <br />Gulch include a berm constructed aloqg the east edge of South <br />Monaco Street Parkway near the conflul\nce with Cherry Creek, and <br />regrading of the floodplain in the 'vicinity of Evans Avenue. <br />Improvements along the upstream portion; of Goldsmith Gulch include <br />the construction of the Eastman Avenue crossing of Goldsmith Gulch, <br />and regrading within the floodplain at several locations throughout <br />the reach. <br /> <br />Southmoor Park, II large, open area along Southmoor Park Tributary, <br />serves as a detention pond that reduces flood magnitudes along the <br />tributary and along Goldsmith Gulch (Reference 15). Additional <br />improvements include the constructiop of the Eastman Avenue <br />crossing of Southmoor Park Tributary. <br /> <br />Sanderson Gulch <br /> <br />At the upper end of the Sanderson Gulch drainage basin, in the City <br />of Lakewood, there are two irrigation storage reservoirs that <br />affect the discharges along Sanderson Gulch during the major flood <br />events. They are Smith Reservoir andi Kendrick Reservoir. There <br />are also a serie~ of small reservoirs ,j lakes, and detention ponds <br />along Sanderson Gulch upstream of Denver that offer some flood <br />protection. <br /> <br />On Sanderson Gulch, an improved grass-tined chanl.lel extends from <br />the South Platte River to South Federal Boulevard (State Highway <br />88). Culverts were improved at South ,Lipari Street, West Arkansas <br />Avenue, and South Zuni Street. Onty minor improvements were <br />completed from South Federal Boulevard i (State Highway 88) to South <br />Sheridan Boulevard (State Highway 95) cpnsisting primarily of small <br />drop structures. . <br /> <br />Improvements were made to the Bit-O-Sea Reservoir located on <br />Sanderson Gulch immediately upstream of South Sheridan Boulevard <br />(State Highway 95) within the City of Lakewood. The earth <br />embankment was raised and protected to increase storage, and the <br />spillway was improved to increase capacity for discharge of the <br />lOO-year event. <br /> <br />Weir Gulch <br /> <br />In the upper part of the Weir Gulch dra'inage basin, there are thre.e <br />irrigation storage reservoirs that affect the floodflows on Weir <br />Gulch: Main Reservoir, Smith Reservoir, and East Reservoir, <br />located upstream of Denver, in the Ci:ty of Lakewood. There are <br />also' two lakes along Weir Gulch, Kountze Lake (also located in <br />Lakewood) and Barnum Lake, both of ~hich store floodwaters and <br />protect areas downstream from flOOding. <br /> <br />14 <br />
