Specifically. the work involved
the preparation of three drainage master plans, a
floodplain study, stream stabilization reports. and
a rate study, This included hydrologic modeling.
alternative analysis. cost estimating. floodplain
delineation. a drainageway stabilization
assessment. and an economic evaluation.
Ongoing plan implementation included reviewing
developers' drainage studies. evaluating
proposed master plan revisions. designing and
constructing new facilities. monitoring
development and assessing the need for
facilities. updating maintenance needs. and
assisting the District in preparing storm drainage
agreements,

Various Projects
South Suburban Park and Recreation District
Arapahoe County, Colorado

As part of our ongoing services contract with the
South Suburban Park and Recreation District.
MWE has completed numerous plans for
improvements at locations in the City of Littleton
and Arapahoe County, Colorado. At the University
Boulevard bridge over Big Dry Creek. a much-
needed trail ramp will be added to provide access
from the street sidewalk to the streamside trail
below. The deteriorating concrete trail beneath
the bridge will be replaced and eroded stream
banks will be repaired. Further upstream at Dry
Creek Road, a new low water crossing will be
constructed over Big Dry Creek, replacing a
nuisance crossing on the heavily used greenway
trail.

At Littleton's Sterne Park. an existing pond has
nearly filled with sediment from Littles Creek. The
pond will be drained and accumulated sediment
will be removed. Construction this winter will
include draining the pond, removing accumulated
sediment. and then restoring the pond as an
amenity for park visitors and the surrounding
neighborhood. Additional projects are planned
along the Big Dry Creek Greenway. Construction
documents will be completed for the final
extension of the Big Dry Creek Trail from South

Windermere Street west to the South Platte River
Greenway Trail. This project involves design of
approximately 3.~)00 feet of concrete trail through
difficult terrain; the trail extension will pass
beneath two railroad bridges and Santa Fe Drive,
Additionally. a bridge spanning 200 feet across
the South Platte River will connect the Big Dry
Creek trail extension to the Mary Carter
Greenway Trail.

Also, MWE prepared a Phase III Drainage Report
for additions to the South Suburban Ice Arena.
which was submitted in April 1999, The South
Suburban Ice Arena building is 56.967 square
feet and includes two ice rinks. three offices.
locker rooms and a lobby area with a concession.
South Suburban proposes to add a 6.934-square-
foot addition on the west side,

The report first evaluated the drainage basins
and sub-basins for available capacity, Also. the
Arapahoe County Storm Drainage Design and
Technical Criteria Manual was used to determine
the required detention volumes and release rates
for the 1 O-year and 1 OO-year storm. MWE pre-
pared drawings to illustrate the site drainage plan
for proposed conditions with the additions to the
ice arena buildin~l. To provide detention for the
parl<ing lot. an existing inlet is proposed to be
modified by the addition of an orifice plate on the
outlet pipe to control 10-year releases. and a
curb/wall along the perimeter of the parking lot to
allow ponding depth and controlled release of the
100-year storm via a weir opening at the inlet
location. The west addition to the ice arena will
be served by the existing 18-inch RCP that drains
to the canal. A new Type C inlet will be installed
to serve the landscape area west of the building.

Project Approach

Staff Responsibilities
MWE will organize its staff to fill these roles in
performing this work: Project Manager (PM).
Project Engineer (PE). and Senior Resource
Engineer (SR),

The PM will serve as the primary point of contact
with CWCB during the life of this project and will
be responsible for the following tasks:

~;
