Since other <br />SOurces of gravel can be found on several of the mesas in the vicinity of <br />Dolores, it seems pit mining of the flood plain is unnecessaIy. Once you have <br />lost the scenic beauty of the river valley and have allowed gravel pits to help <br />change the pattern and flow of the river you will not be able to restore <br />conditions to what was appreciated before the changes.
