<br />CHAPTER lIt <br />STUDY AREA DESCRIPTION <br /> <br />Drain~~e Basin Characteristics <br /> <br />f. <br /> <br />PART I <br />RUNNING CREEK FLOODPLAIN Sl'UDY <br /> <br />The headwaters of the Running Creek basin originate at the edge of the <br />Black Forest near the divide betwecn the South Platte River and Arkansas <br />River watersheds. The orientation of the basin ia ahown in Figure-2. The <br />larger Cherry Creek and Kiowa Creek baaina are located to the weat and eaat <br />of the Running Creek baain, respectively. <br /> <br />Running Creek flows northward from a maximum baain elevation of 7450 <br />feet to 6430 feet above mean sea level (MSL) at Eli~abeth. Channel alignment <br />is relatively atraight with an average fall of 50 feet per mile.
