<br />II <br />fiscal year highlights <br />dt <br />d~i <br />r~.~~!~.. <br /> <br /> <br />Generally speaking, Fiscal Year 1972 <br />WIIS a year for slarting new facilities on <br />the Upper Colorado RiVt~r Storage <br />Project. <br /> <br />Construction was inilialed on Crystal <br />Dam, the last key feature of the <br />Cumcanti Project, with the start of work <br />un the diversion tunnel. When finished. <br />this regulating dam will permit the full <br />utiliZAtion of Morrow Point and Blue <br />Mesa Dams which an~ now ill an opera- <br />tion and lTlaintenance status. <br /> <br />Construction began on the 21 mile long <br />Jordan Aqueduct,a feature of the Central <br />Ulah Project. Bonneville Unit. <br />Ultimately this facility will supply <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br />There were also milestones on the ope. <br />rational aspects. <br /> <br />On December 8, 1971, flows of Waler <br />,f'4 Hollm..' Creek were diverted through the <br />new Water Hollow Tunnel into Straw- <br />berry Reservoir of the Bonneville Unit. <br /> <br />~~.~?- The Meeks Cabin Reservoir of the <br />--1. ....ymlln Project in southwest Wyoming <br /><<-'as filled in June 1972, and the first <br />waler was released for delivery to the <br />waler users. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />-/. <br /> <br />'~r/ <br /> <br />79,000 acre-feet of water annually to <br />Salt Lake County. <br /> <br />Work was started on the badly needed <br />steel pipe siphon replacements on the <br />Gould Canal of the Fruitland Mesa <br />Project. <br /> <br />Construction also started on electric <br />power transmission facilities in <br />Southeastern Wyoming and North- <br />central Colorado which will tie the <br />hydro system of the Federal Govern. <br />ment in with the thermal operated sys- <br />tems in the area for overall system <br />reliability. <br /> <br />The water surfactl of the Flaming Gorge <br />Reservoir on the Wyoming-Utah bordm <br />reached an elevation of 6033 feet- only <br />seven feet short of capacity. <br />Project power genl'!ratioll for the yp,ar <br />peaked at 1,305,000 kilowatts while <br />energy production rose b}' 14 percent <br />above Fiscal Year 1971. With an abun- <br />dant supply of water available during <br />the year, energy production more than <br />doubled at thp, Flaming Gorge power <br />facilities. <br />Total funds returned to the Tnmsur}' for <br />the year were $24,293.503. Of this <br />amount, interest payments amounted to <br />$12.693.503, and the balance of <br />$11,600,000 was applied as payment on <br />investment. <br />In the planning field. the Definite Plan <br />Report \Va.'> completed on the Savery. <br />Pot Hook Project and advance planning <br />started on the San r-.Hguel Project. <br />
