.,FLooD IIjSUlWlCE STUDY

1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Purpose of Study

This Flood Insurance Study report has been prepared to revise
and update a previous Flood Insurance, Study/Flood Insurance Rate
Map for the City of Sheridan, Arapahoe County, colora9oi which
was published on July 13, 1976. This information wilt be used
by Sheridan to update existing flood plain regulations as part
of the regular program of flood insurance by the Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA). The information will also be used by
local and regional planners to further promote sound land use
and flood plain development.

In some states or communities, flood plain management criteria
or regulations may exist that are more restrictive or comprehensive
than the minimum Federal requirements. In such cases, the more
restrictive criteria take precedence and the State (or other juris-
dictional agency) will be able to explain them.

1.2 Authority and Acknowledgments

The sources of authority for this Flood Insurance Study are the
National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster Protec-
tion Act of 1973.

The original hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for this study
were performed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE), Omaha
District, for FEMA, under Inter-Agency Agreement No. IAA-H-2-73,
Project Order No.4. This study was completed in 1976.

A revised hydraulic analysis was performed for Bear Creek. This
work was completed in March 19~4.

1.3 Coordination

The original study was based on' Flood Plain Information reports
which were made by the COE, Omaha District, and coordinated by
the Colorado Water Conservation Board. Maps of the study area
were provided by the City of Sheridan.

A meeting was held on September 10, 1975, between local and State
officials, and representatives of the COE, the study contractor,
and FEMA to coordinate the. flood elevations and boundaries presented
in the original Flood Insurance Study. Those results represented
the best available data before construction of the Bear Creek
