An increase oflpereent in real <br />dollars is forecast for the MSA. This is in line with the rate of growth projected for <br />the nation as a whole over the same period. A community developed around the outpost <br />and continued to grow after thc fort was abandoned in 1872. A town development <br />company promoted settlement in the area. The town of Fort Collins grew <br />successfully because of the arrival of the railroad, the foundation of a land grant <br />colle~e (now CSU), and the local sugar beet industry.
