The mine surface
facilities are located in the southeast quadrant of Section 25, Range
71W, Township 2S. The site is shown on the Location Map, Figure 1.

The facilities are located on the west bank of Ralston Creek, about two

miles upstream of Ralston Reservoir. Ralston Creek is deeply incised into

the surrounding mountains; the valley is approximately 6,600 feet wide at the

crest and 1,200 feet deep at the mine site. Ralston Creek has been determined

by the State of Colorado Water Qual ity Control Commission to be a stream

with a 7Q10 of zero. The creek drains approximately 38.7 square miles of

mountainous watershed at the mine site.

The valley floor width ranges from 60 feet to 300 feet at the mine site.
The original alluvial valley has been covered with fill to form a pad for
mine facilities. Ralston Creek has been constrained by the fill to flow on
the east side of the valley adjacent to the east bank. The original location
and channel of Ralston Creek has been altered by mine facility construction
over the years.

4.2 Watershed Description and Hydrology

The Ralston Creek watershed at the mine site is composed of approximately

38.7 square miles of forested mountainous watershed. The watershed is shown in

Figure 2. Elevations range from 10,500 in the western mountains to approxi-

4-1
