Stages and discharges.- A crest stage 'on Weeping Wate.r <br />Creek of 24.3 feet on 1 May indicated a peak discharge of approxi- <br />matelyH15,OOO c..f.s" The greatest stage and disoharge previously <br />observed at this station were 29.7 feet and 59,400 c.f.s, respectively, <br />which occurred on 8 May 1950. <br /> <br />5. Damages~- Agricultural damages were not severe. No human <br />lives or livestcck were lost and no farm homes were affected. <br />Scour and sedimentation on the valley floor lands were moderate. <br />TV.o county road bridges were damaged. 4.14 miles of ungraded earth <br />roads' and 2.5 miles of graded earth ro!1-d~ were overtopped and in <br />addition to being impassable for several days sustained some scour. <br />A total area estimated at 3,410 acres was inundated - 540 acres on <br />the South Branch and 2,870 acres on Weeping Water Creek. <br /> <br />6. . SALT CREEK, NEBRASKA <br />(Tributary of the Platte River) <br /> <br />Flood of 1-2 June <br /> <br />1. Cause. - During 30 May-l June a heavy and prolonged rainstorm <br />occurred over Salt Creek Basin and adjacent areas. Unofficial total <br />rainfall reports were as follows: Hickman, Nebraska, 4.85 inches; <br />Sprague, Nebraska, 3.25 inches; and Benton, Nebraska, 4.20 inches. <br />The runoff from this storm caused the flooding. <br /> <br />2. Extent.- Moderate overbank flow waS general along Salt <br />Creek from its source to a point about 3 miles above Ashland, <br />Nebraska. Below this point high discharges fram tributary streams <br />caused severe flooding. The average width of inundated areas was <br />approximately 0.4 mile. <br /> <br />'3. Duration;- Overbank flow along the upper reach of Salt <br />Creek began about 9:00 p.m., 1 June and began to recede.at about <br />7:00a.m., 2 June. At Lincoln, Nebraska, the streets in the <br />Lincola residential area began to flood at 2:00 a.m., 2 June, <br /> <br />9 <br />
