<br />2. Extent.- Overbank flow occurred above and below State <br />Highway 174 Bridge over the East Nishnabotna River just north of <br />Farragut, Iowa; in the vicinity of: state.' Highway 2 over the West <br />Nishnabotna River east of Sidney, Iowa; and in the vicinity of <br />State Highway 42 between these two. streams at Riverton, Iowa. <br /> <br />3. ,~uration.~ Flooding began on 27 March and. ceased about <br />30 March when the ice blocks broke up. <br /> <br />4. Sta~es and dischar~es.- This was a minor flood and no <br />discharge measurem~ntswere made. <br /> <br />5. Dama~es.- State Highways 174, 2 and 42, were overtopped <br />at the .points of stream crossing and. were closed to, traffic for <br />about 4 days. 'The ChiCago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad branch <br />lia.e was overtopped at; the northeast cor.ner of Riverton and .was <br />closed to traffic for about 6 days. Some damage oCcurred ,to <br />levees. A small area of farmland was flooded to shallow depth but <br />only minor" damages. ,resulted. Cause~-. 'The subjeot floOds were caused by runoff from <br />heavy-rainfall.On.3l Maya rainstorm centered over Red Oak, Iowa, <br />and' vicinity with maximum precipitation of 2.37 inches. A similar <br />rainstorm deposited 2.11 inches ,over practically the same area on <br />31 May and 1 JUne.' <br /> <br />2. Extent.. The two floods.inundated practically the same <br />areas. ...
