FLOOD INSURANCB STUDY
BOULDBR COUNTY, COLORADO

1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Purpose of Study

This Flood Insurance Study revises and updates information on the
, existence and severity of flood hazards in the geographic area of
Boulder County, including the Cities of Boulder, Lafayette,
Longmont, Louisville, the Towns of Jamestown, Lyons, Neder1and,
Superior, Ward, and the unincorporated areas of Boulder County
(referred to collectively herein as Boulder County). The Town of
Ward is non-floodprone. Please note that the City of Longmont is
located in more than one county but is included in its entirety in
the Boulder County Flood Insurance Study. This Flood Insurance
Study aids in the administration of the National Flood Insurance
Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973.

The City of Broomfield and the Town of Brie are multi-county
communities. Flooding information for Broomfield and Brie
affecting Boulder County presented in this study report and on the
Boulder County Flood Insurance Rate Map is for information only.
Broomfield and Erie have separately published Flood Insurance Study
reports/Flood Insurance Rate Maps.

The study has developed flood risk data for various areas of the
community that will be used to establish actuarial flood insurance
rates and assist the community in its efforts to promote sound
floodplain management. Minimum floodplain management requirements
for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)
are set forth in the Code of Federal Regulations at 44 CFR, 60.3.
This information will be used to update existing floodplain
regulations as part of the Regular Phase of the NFIP. The
information will also be used by local and regional planners to
further promote sound land use and floodplain development.

In some states or communities, floodplain management criteria or
regulations may exist that are more restrictive or comprehensive
than the minimum Federal requirements. In such cases, the more
restrictive criteria take precedence and the State (or other
jurisdictional agency) will be able to explain them.

U.S. Soil Conservation Service (SCS), for the Federal Bmergency
Management Agency (FEMA), under Interagency Agreement No. IAA-H-16-
72, Project Order No.5. This study was completed in August 1974.
