The
total length of the Hidden Lake Planning Basin from the highest point
on the basin boundary to Clear Creek is approximately 4.5 miles.
The highest point on the boundary of the Bates Lake Planning Basin
is approximately elevation 5425 feet. The invert of Clear Creek near
Sheridan Blvd. where the Bates Lake basin flows (and Ralston Creek)
join Clear Creek is at elevation 5242 feet. The total length of the
Bates Lake Planning Basin is approximately 1.9 miles.
Geological influences upon the surface drainage conditions are
very muted. The only location within the two planning basins that
geological factors have affected the surface drainage is on the Clear
Creek alluvial terrace where large areas have been excavated to obtain
sand and gravel. These ponds do create a routing effect upon the
storm water runoff passing through these ponds.
The ponds located in the isolated sub-basins oft~ossess
sufficient surcharge storage capacity to retain the complete 100 year
storm runoff from the sub-basin. The surcharged storm water percolates
into the Clear Creek alluvial aquifer and thusly recharges the ground
water basin.
D. Present Land Use
The majority of the land in the upper portion of the Hidden Lake
Planning Basin is presently developed to residential use. There is
a large block of land on the north side of the basin, west of Sheridan
(within Westminster) that is currently undeveloped, but plans have
been submitted to Westminster for PUD type projects in this area. The
existing development is shown on Figure 11-3.
