31, 1981 clS Flood AWclreness Day. In momory of the loss of life
and property which occurred five yedrs aqo we will observe that
annIversary and consider the tdsk of preventing flood disasters
In the future. Covernor Lamm will open lhe ceremony, and various
local and staLe officiaLs will also participate.

In add1tion to remembering the Bi~ Thompson Flood we will
reme~ber other flood disdsters that hdve happened in Colorddo.
We hope thdt this ceramony wi II snrvn to remind the people of
Colorcldo of thc state's history of flood disasters, of the
importance of ongoing local progrdms of floodplain management,
and of the availability of assistdnce to local communities in
mana~inR \heir floodplains~ I look forward td seeing you.
