The following summarizes the field review. Selected
photographs have also been included.

Meeting with the countv
. A meeting was held with Patty Parker, Town Clerk, Tim Lippert, Public Works Director, and
the mayor. The meeting was held at the town hall.

. Tom Browning made introductions, explained the purpose of the meeting, reviewed
legislation supporting the designation process and described the designation process.

. It was discussed that there are two maps for the Town of Norwood: the map showing Special
Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs) completed in 1974 and the San Miguel countywide FIRMs,
which are the current flood insurance maps for the town. The town was familiar with both
sets of maps.

. The west drainage and Cedar Street drainages are not a concern. The west drainage has a
contributing area less than) square mile, which is the limit for designation by CWCB. The
Cedar Street drainage has mostly been sewered through town, significantly decreasing any
flooding. The storm sewers were sized for the 25-year event.

. Ed Joe Draw conveys tailwater from the Gurley Ditch. The Draw helps dissipate flooding.
In addition, Cone Ditch intercepts a significant portion of the runoff from the Ed Joe Draw.
The Town does not believe that Ed Joe Draw poses a serious flooding problem.

. There has been some basement flooding in the town due to heavy downpours coupled with
individual lot drainage problems. However, there have not been problems with surface flows
flooding structures, especially since the storm sewer has been installed.

<II>>

1013

norwood_fieldrpt.doc
November 13, 2000
