<br />elevation at each monument (concrete base with brass cap) is in- <br />scribed on the top and may be used for establishing water surface <br />elevations directly in the field. <br />Railroad and highway structures were field :3urveyed for the <br />study by Gingery Associates <br /> <br />STUDY AREA DESCRIPTION <br /> <br />Drainage Basin Characteristics <br /> <br />The study area on Beaver Creek near Brush, Colorado, iE: 10- <br />cal:ed in Morgan County, approximately 90 miles northeast of Denver. <br />Beaver Creek drains approximately 1,089 square miles within parts <br />of Morgan County, Washington County, Adams County, Arapahoe County, <br />Lincoln County and Elbert County, to the downstream study limit <br />at Interstate 76. The headwaters of Beaver Creek are located. ap- <br />proximately 80 miles upstream of Interstate 76 near Interstate 70, <br />northwest of Limon, Colorado. The creek flow's in a northerly di- <br />rection to the South Platte River, approximately 4-1/2 miles down- <br />stream of Interstate 76. T\1e drainage ,lrea ranges in elevateion <br />from approximately 6,000 feet above sea level in the basin head- <br />wat:ers to elevation 4,216 at the downstream study limits and <br />elevation 4,150 at the South Platte River. The limits of the <br />Beaver Creek drainage area are shown on the Basin Map, Plate 1. <br />The reach of Beaver Creek considered in this study includes <br />the reach from Interstate 76 south, approximately 4 miles, teo the <br />section line between Sections 13 and 24" 1'ownship 3 North, Range <br />56 l'lest. The limits of the detailed. study are shown on the Index <br />Map, Plate 2. <br />The Badger Creek drainage, directly west of the Beaver Creek <br />drainage area, was also analyzed as a part of this study. 1'he <br />Badger Creek drainage is a long and narrow basin draining approxi- <br />mal:ely 277 square miles. This basin has its headwaters in Arapahoe <br />County and drains through Adams County and Morgan County. 1'his <br />basin was analyzed as a part of the flood plain information report <br /> <br />-5-' <br />
