I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
! I
I
I
I

APPENDIX A
INTERVIEWS WITH RESIDENTS
JULY 9, 1981
(The letter designation refers to the locations shown on Plate 1)

A, Didero - The Didero residence is located 1-1/4 miles west of

Barela, south of the county road on San Francisco Creek. Mr. Didero had

a 5-gallon bucket with straight sides, sitting on a slight angle next to

and under a tree adjacent to his house. The bucket was l2-inches high

and was slightly over half full of water when held vertical. He felt

the rain was in excess of the six inches measured in the bucket and

could have been as much as 10 inches had the bucket been out from

beneath the tree. Rainfall started sometime after 9 p.m., but Mr,

Didero wasn't sure what time. Mr. Didero reported that the 1954 storm

in San Francisco basin was worse than the July 2-3 storm. An estimate

of eight inches of rainfall was used for this location in preparation of

isohyetals on Plate 1.

B. Cusimano - The Cusimano residence is
Francisco Creek about 6 miles west of Barela.

located adjacent to San
The Cusimanos estimated

rainfall of about 16 inches on the basis of filling and overflowing a
l3-inch deep bucket. Mrs. Cusimano reported the storm started at 10
p,m. At 11 p.m. her 6-inch raingage overtopped. It rained heavily
until 1:30 or 2:00 a.m.

C. Sandoval - Mrs. Sandoval reported that it started raining

heavily at 9:50 p.m. and rained heavily for four hours. A six-inch

raingage filled up by 11:00, was emptied and filled and overflowed again

by midnight. A l2-inch deep bucket also filled and overtopped during

the storm, Mrs. Sandoval felt a l6-inch rainfall was a conservative

estimate of the amount of rain because it continued to rain heavily

until 1:30 or 2:00 a.m.

A-I
