I
I
I
I
I

Number 12 - Determine whether the lender is aware
of who can be called on in FEMA or the state for
assistance in flooding or flood insurance matters.

I

S, Before initiating the next task, the reviewer needs
to summarize the results of the lenders meetings. Take
a minute to review your notes and highlight any issues
that need to be pursued with local staff and those that
need to be documented in the Final Report,

D. Insurance Agents Meetings: Meetings with agents are
especially productive in CAPEs as a check on the adequacy of
local officials' implementation of the NFIP, eog., where
agents are unable to secure lowest floor elevation data from
the community.

I
I

I. The reviewer needs to answer the same three
questions during the insurance agents meetings as were
asked of lenders (see B-l, above) 0

I

2. Review the responses recorded to Part 3B of the CRF,
if the agents visits were pre-arranged. A good deal of
information on agents' performance is gained during this
initial interview.

I
'I
I
I
:1
I
I
I
I
II

3. If the agents meetings were not prearranged (if the
interview outlined at Part 3B was not conducted) start
the meeting by going through items 3-7 from the Part 3B
checklist. Refer to Section I-K of this guide for
instructions.

4. In your meetings with agents, either initiate or
continue your interview using the checklist at Part 6 of
the CRF as a guide to evaluate their handling of flood
insurance, as follows:

Number I - Ask the agent whether local property
owners know that flood insurance is availableo

Number 2 - Ask for a step-by-step description of
the procedure the agent follows to write a flood
insurance policy.

Number 3 - Ask for a description of the procedure
the agent follows to get lowest floor elevation
data from local governments. This is a
particularly important question since it can alert
you to inadequacies in the local floodplain
management program.

Number 4 - Mobile homes are required to be
adequately anchored in order to qualify for flood

- IS -
