6. Public Education/Information - Public preparedness
for a flood emergency ~s accompl~shed by means of personal
contact by City and County officials. It should at minimum
include all residences and businesses located in the 100-year
floodplain of the Arkansas River. Door-to-door contact,
newspaper ads, and flyers mailed to the addresses of people
affected are effective public education/information tools.
Again, private individuals should be aware of what is expected
of them in the event of flooding (ie, floodplain level
designation, evacuation route, shelter they should go to,
etc.) .
