iown work crews and costs, while not estimated, are anticipated to be minimal.
The plan anticipates that ~11 recommended improvements can be completed on
public property or with the consent and cooperation of property owners, if
access to private property is required.

The plans do not specify pipe or ditch sizes as flow quantities and facility
sizes have not'been determined. A minimum pIpe size of 18 inches is recommended.
Corrugatedmetalpipesarerecormlendedforeaseofconstructionbylocalwork
forces. In all cases, field measurements should be made to confirm that all
the recomendati~ns will fit with the adjoining properties before construction
of the ditches and culverts begins.

North Mancos

The primary recommendation for this area is to install a culvert from the east
side of Ervien Street at the frontage road to a pOint west where the culVert
would daylight into a shallow ditch or swale along the north side of the frontage
road. The ditch should have flat side-slopes so that it can be a part of the
parking area for the adjoi ni ng buildings. Anot~er culvert is required under
S.H. 184 to carry stonnwater runoff under the highway and into the irrigation
ditch west of S.H. 184. iheirrigationcompanyshouldapprovetheuseofthe
ditch for ~tonmw~t~r dr~;nage.

I

The area on the east side of S.K. 184 between U.S. 160 and the alley north of
~enefee s~ould drain into the irrigation ditch, with the concurrence of the
irrigation company, or a roadside swale should be constructed between the road-
way and the irrigation ditch to direct road runoff and runoff crossi~g tne
irrigation ditch to the north.

Upon fi~alizi~9 the street, utility dnd development plans for the area west of
~.H. 184, provisio~ should be made for conveying flows from the 24.inch culvert
under S.H. 184 to Chicken Creek. Also, the development plans should provide
for positive drainage throughout the area so that problems typical of those in
Mancos are avoided.

-31-

All drainage facilities, new and existing, should be checked and maintained
on a regular basis to avoid siltatio~ and to mai~tai~ a continuously functioning
sy~ tem.

Central Ma~cos

Improveme~ts are recommended for nearly every street in the central area. A
discussion of the recommendations for each street is enumerated below. References
to roadside ditches or swales is given CO~$idering typical street sections as
shown in PlateZO.

1. Ra 11 road Avenue _ roadside ditches should be co~structed or improved
along the south side of the street as shown on Plates 17 and 18.
The existing culverts paralleling the street should be maintain ed.
At Spruce Street, the roadside ditch/swale may be diverted into the
irrigation ditch, if acceptable to the irrigation company.

Z. Bauer Avenue (Fi r~t Avenue) _ roads i de ditches/swa 1 es shoul d be
graded along both sides of the gravel-surfaced street from Walnut
Street tQ S~ruce Street. A continuous flow path shoul d exist
olong the ~orth side of the ~treet. cro~sing each of the north/south
streets so as to not divert runoff onto these streets. Similarly,
the south flowline should be continuous except at Ook Street where
the side ditch/s~dle shQul~ be turned to drdi~ sout~ onto ~~ Strpet.
At Spruce Street. a new culvert should be installed across Bauer
Avenue to carry flows from the north to the south.

3. GrandAvenue_GrandAvenueistheoldLJ.S.16Qandthusisahard-
surface street with curb and gutter. Nospecificimprovernentsare
propo~ed for Grand Avenue other than to maintain the condition of
tr.e curb dn~ gl,tter and the dra inaqe pattern of the street.

4. Riverside Ave~ue . Riverside Avenue is not paved and roadside
ditChes/swales carry stormwater runoff to the west end of the street
at Monte Street. These ditches appear to be fu~ctionable except
~et~een Spruce Street and Cedar Street. where the ditch/swale should
~e regraded. Swales are proposed to cross Riverside Avenue at the
locations ~~own in Plate 17.

-32-
