<br />3.0 Drainaqe Basins <br /> <br />Spring Cr'eek is an J.ntermittent stream which flows through <br />the Town of Pierce in 8 southeasterly direction, In the narrow <br />96,S-square mile drainage basin (figure 1), which extends <br />southe8st from the L8r8mie Mountains in southern Wyoming down <br />to Pierce, Spring Cr'eek has cut a mE,ander'ing channel in the <br />gently rolling hills through pasture lands and croplands. From <br />Rowe Avenue south to County Road No, 88 the flow is divided by <br />the Union P8cific Railroad and U.S. HJ.ghway 85. The overbank <br />areas consist of residentJ.al, commercJ.al, and agricultural <br />18nd-uses, <br /> <br />Spring Creek enters Pierce at the Town's northern corporate <br />bound8ry. Almost immedi8tely, the main channel turns 90 <br />dE'grees east and flows through bridges for U, S. rlJ.(,hway 85 and <br />Union PacifJ.C Railro~d before turning southeast, When flooding <br />conditions exist, these bridges and embankmE,nts diuE,rt the <br />floodwater into the Town, <br /> <br />A split flow regime occurs within the Town for the SprJ.ng <br />Creek B8sin. The draJ.nage path which Flows south through Town <br />on the west side of the Union Pacific Railroad is known as the <br />Spring Creek Overflow, The easte~ly flow path along the east <br />side of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks is k~own as Spring <br />Creek. <br /> <br />4.0 l'xistinq Flood Control and DI^ain!;lJlJ".---.E_acil:lties. <br /> <br />There are no Flood protection structures either existing or <br />proposed for the Town, The existing drainage facilities within <br />the Town consist of ditches and culverts at street crossings <br />Since no storm sewer system or flood control structures exist, <br />the Town has no protection from flood d~mdges ur losses, <br />- . <br /> <br />-2- <br />
