First floor or main floor must be at or above RFD.

2. Driveways and walkways shall be no more than one foot below the RFD.

3. Where fill is used to elevate structure, top of the earth fill slope
shall be no more than one foot below RFD and all fill should be pro-
tected to the RFD by vegetation or stone, depending on exposure to
flood velocities.

4. Minimum distance from any point of the building perimeter to the top
of the fill slope shall either be 15 feet, or twice the depth of fill
to that point, whichever is greater.

5. Ii the community has been granted a prior exception by the Federal
Insurance Administration for the construction of basements below the
RFD, such basements, whether in a filled or unfilled area, must meet
the FP-l classification of the Flood-Proofing Regulations.

6. Other spaces, such as garages or porches, located below the RFD must
comply with the requirements of Chapter 6 of Flood-Proofing Regulations
with respect to allowable loadings, and with Chapters 9-13, inclusive,
with respect to materials for floors, walls, and ceilings; contents;
and electrical and mechanical systems.

COnTllercial Structures. All provisions under "Residences" above generally
must be met. In those instances where trained personnel are continuously
available on the property the owner may request an FP-2 classification. (See
Section 210.1 of the Flood-Proofing Regulations).

Other Structures. All other structures located below the RFD must comply
with the requirements of chapter 6 of the Flood-Proofing Regulations with
respect to allowable loadings. The assignment of the flood-proofing class in
accordance with Section 210.1 of the Flood-Proofing Regulations, determines
the types of materials to be used for floors, walls, ceilings; the allowable
contents of the structure; electrical and mechanical requirements.; and the
fire protection systems. For communities in the National Flood Insurance
Program, present Federal Insurance Administration policies limit flood-proof-
ing of non-residential structures within the Primary Flood Hazard Area to
either a FP-l or FP-2 classification.

15

...- --
