Tim Wirth

by Ms. Betty Miller
Lakewood, Colorado
Phone: 234-5200

Issues to be discussed at the meeting:

1. The commission and interested parties should be advised
and assured that we must reorganize and push for project
authorization and funding in the 2nd session of the 97th
Congress.

2. Within the State, we have two proposed Corps projects in
the same Congressional status. The two projects are:

a. Flood Control Project, Fountain Creek, Pueblo,
Colorado, Cost=$6,600,000.

b. Flood Control Project, Westerly Creek, Denver-
Aurora, Colorado, Cost=$7,800,000.

When comparing these project costs to other western
states' construction projects, they are relatively small;
therefore, neither will break Fort Knox. The big task is
for project sponsors to obtain authorization or some type
of project go-ahead.

4. If I had to establish a priority for the two projects, the
vote would be

3.

1st Fountain Creek

2nd Westerly Creek

The reasons are:

a. Fountain Creek poses a great flood threat to the
loss of property and lives.

b. The Fountain Creek has a history of large floods.

-2-
