Its headwaters originate on the western slope of
the Continental Divide at an elevation of approximately 12,160 feet. The
creek then flows in a northerly and then northwesterly direction draining
into the Eagle River approximately 3 miles downstream of the confluence
of Gore Creek and the Eagle River. The lower reach portion of Stone
Creek (on the alluvial fan) was re-routed when the Eagle-Vail Subdivision
was built. The mouth of the re-routed Stone Creek is at elevation 7680
feet.

I

I

I

The area
5.1 square miles
tributaries.

upstream from
(see BaSin Map,

the mouth encompasses a drainage area of
Plate 1). The
study reach is centered about the developed areas along Stone Creek. The
length of the study reach is approximately 1.3 miles.

I

I

Development of this area has taken place on the
Stone Creek, where a half-mile wide valley exists.
re-routed along the study reach when the Eagle-Vail
built. Stone Creek currently flows through a series
created for aesthetic reasons. A golf course is adjacent
and the stream for the entire study reach.

alluvial fan of
Stone Creek was
Subdivision was
of small ponds
to these ponds

I

I

I

il

I

I

;;
