<br />320 MAP INFORMATION
<br />
<br />This activity credits reading Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) in response to requests from
<br />the public. For this credit, your community's program must do ALL of the following:
<br />
<br />\, You must respond to all inquiries to identify a property's FIRM zone within a reasonable
<br />period oftime, You may charge a reasonable fee for this service and you may require the
<br />inquirer to submit the request in writing or show the property on a street map, If the property
<br />is too close to the floodplain boundary, you may provide the inquirer with a copy of the
<br />FIRM and advise that a FIRM zone determination cannot be made, Inquirers should be
<br />advised that this service does not relieve a lending institution of its responsibility to
<br />determine if flood insurance should be required as a condition of a loan,
<br />
<br />If asked, you must provide additional informalion that is shown on the FIRM, Such data
<br />include the community NFIP number, FIRM panel number, FIRM index date, the FIRM
<br />zone, and the base flood elevation or depth,
<br />
<br />2, You myst advise those who inquire about a property in the SFHA thal flood insurance is
<br />reqllrred as a condition of a loan or federal assistance or provide a handout that explains the
<br />flood insurance purchase requirement (see example, page 14),
<br />
<br />3, If you are a coastal community and find that a property is in a designated "undeveloped
<br />coastal barrier" or "otherwise protected area," you must inform lhe inquirer about the
<br />designation and the limits on federal assistance under the Coastal Barriers Resources Act.
<br />
<br />4, You must use the latest Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and you must maintain copies
<br />of all FIRMs in effect since the date you apply to the CRS, You are responsible for ensuring
<br />that the map used is updated to reflect new subdivisions, changes in corporale limits and all
<br />new FIRM dala from flood insurance restudies, map revisions, map amendments, and Letters
<br />of Map Amendment (LOMAs) and Map Revision (LOMRs),
<br />
<br />5, EACH YEAR, you must publicize this service to local banks, lending institutions, insurance
<br />agencies, and real estate agencies, An example of a letter publicizing this service is on the
<br />next page, As an alternative, you may publicize this service in a newsletter or other outreach
<br />project that reaches everyone in the community and is credited under Seclion 33 La. L A
<br />news article or legal notice in a newspaper or a note in the telephone book will not suffice.
<br />
<br />6, You must keep a log or other record of this service, The record must include the date, the
<br />address or location of the property, and whether the inquirer was advised of the flood
<br />insurance purchase requirement (see example, below).
