<br />d. Sun River. The small town of Sun .Ri vel' is particularly <br />vulnerable to flo.oding and the entire area sustained damage due to <br />overflow of the Sun River. Forty residences and 9 business establish- <br />ments sustained nearly $130.000 in flood damage.' Municipal damage was <br />estimated at. $10 ,000. The entire community, which has a pOPulation of.. <br />about 100 persons, was evacuated during the height of the flood. <br /> <br />e. A~ta. 'Located on the .South Fork near its con.fluence with <br />the North Fork .of the Sun River, the town of Augusta sustained flood . <br />damage to 34 homes and 1 7 businesses for a total of about $63,000. <br />Flood depths ranged up to 3 feet. Municipal d~age totaled nearly <br />$3,000. <br /> <br />f. Chouteau. Floodwaters from the Teton River overflowed into' <br />Spring Creek which flows through the city of Chouteau. High flows on <br />Spring Creek and the Teton teamed to inundate practically the' entire <br />city' to. depths up to 6, feet. . Damage was ,sustaine.d by 536 homes and <br />101 business. establishments. The entire population. of nearly 2,000 <br />persons was evacuated to the. airport located on high ground during the .. <br />peak of theflQod.' Damage to homes, bus,inesses, and municipal property <br />exceeded. $1,000,000. <br /> <br />'.',' <br /> <br />g. Shelby. Heavy rains, in the area located north of Shelby, <br />caused failure of two small stock dams and extensive flooding of a <br />large part of Shelby. Two other small dams in the same area were <br />overtoppeGl:, but did not fail.. . Sullivan Dam, the larger: of the two dams <br />that: failed, was lost..and the other dAm known as Dam Number 3 was <br />extensivelyeroded'soas:to make it ineffective for storage purposes. <br />Flood waters damaged 135 homes and 8 businesses for. total estimated <br />damages in excess of $72,000. Municipal and utility damagee sustained <br />were eetimated at nearly '$34 ,000, primarily to the water well field <br />which is on the le1't bank of the Marias River, about 7 milee south of <br />the city. Damage at the well field involved erosion of the welle, pump'" <br />house. foundation damage, and inundation and damage to automatic electric <br />controle. <br /> <br />'-~--~,-~ <br /> <br />. . <br />. Twenty-four homes and 3 business establishmente were <br />flooded in the town of Dupuyer due to overflow from Dupuyer Creek and <br />Sheep Creek,. a emall tributary of Dupuyer Creek.' Residential damage <br />was estimatedatalmost.$6,ooo with commercial damageslightly.more <br />than '$1',000. Flood depths 'were shallow, reaching depths of about one" <br />foot. <br /> <br />1. East Glacier. The reeort cOllIlllunity of East Glacier wae flooded <br />by MidvaleCreek, a right bank tributary of. Two Medicine Creek. Exces- <br />si ve runoff overtaxed a small municipal water sto.rage daJIl, destroying <br />it and a part of' the water distribution eystem.
