<br />FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY <br /> <br />1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />1.1 Purpose of Study <br /> <br />The purpose of this Flood Insurance Study is to investigate the <br />existence and severity of flood hazards in the City of ,Brush, <br />Morgan County, Colorado, and to aid in the administration of the <br />Flood Insurance Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster Protection Act <br />of 1973. Initial use of this information will be to convert Brush <br />to the regular program of flood insurance by the Federal Insurance <br />Administration. Further use of the information will be made by <br />local and regional planners in their efforts to promote sound land <br />use and flood plain development~ <br /> <br />1.2 Coordination <br /> <br />A meeting was held on July 12, 1976, with officials from the City <br />of Brush and representatives of the Colorado Water Conservation <br />Board, the Federal Insurance Administration, and Gingery Associates, <br />Inc. At this meeting, the results of a Flood Plain Study of Beaver <br />Creek prepared by Gingery Associates, Inc., for the Colorado Water <br />Conservation Board and the City of Brush were presented and explained. <br />There were no objections to the study and therefore the data developed <br />for it were used for this Flood Insurance Study. <br /> <br />A presentation and explanation of floodways by Gingery Associates, <br />Inc., was accomplished during a public meeting with the City of <br />Brush on October 11, 1976. The city later sent a letter on <br />November 16, 1976, regarding the type of floodway to be developed <br />for the study. <br /> <br />The final community coordination meeting was held on January 10, <br />1977, and was attended by representatives of the Federal Insurance <br />Administration, the study contractor, and the City Council. No <br />problems were encountered during this meeting. <br /> <br />1.3 Authority and Acknowledgments <br /> <br />The source of authority for this Flood Insurance Study is the <br />National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, as amended. <br /> <br />The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for this study were performed <br />by Gingery Associates, Inc., for the Federal Insurance Administra- <br />tion, under Contract No. H-40l7. This work, which was completed in <br />December 1976, covered all flooding sources affecting the City of <br />Brush. <br />
