FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY

1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Purpose of Study

The purpose of this Flood Insurance Study is to investigate the
existence and severity of flood hazards in the City of ,Brush,
Morgan County, Colorado, and to aid in the administration of the
Flood Insurance Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster Protection Act
of 1973. Initial use of this information will be to convert Brush
to the regular program of flood insurance by the Federal Insurance
Administration. Further use of the information will be made by
local and regional planners in their efforts to promote sound land
use and flood plain development~

1.2 Coordination

A meeting was held on July 12, 1976, with officials from the City
of Brush and representatives of the Colorado Water Conservation
Board, the Federal Insurance Administration, and Gingery Associates,
Inc. At this meeting, the results of a Flood Plain Study of Beaver
Creek prepared by Gingery Associates, Inc., for the Colorado Water
Conservation Board and the City of Brush were presented and explained.
There were no objections to the study and therefore the data developed
for it were used for this Flood Insurance Study.

A presentation and explanation of floodways by Gingery Associates,
Inc., was accomplished during a public meeting with the City of
Brush on October 11, 1976. The city later sent a letter on
November 16, 1976, regarding the type of floodway to be developed
for the study.

The final community coordination meeting was held on January 10,
1977, and was attended by representatives of the Federal Insurance
Administration, the study contractor, and the City Council. No
problems were encountered during this meeting.

1.3 Authority and Acknowledgments

The source of authority for this Flood Insurance Study is the
National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, as amended.

The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for this study were performed
by Gingery Associates, Inc., for the Federal Insurance Administra-
tion, under Contract No. H-40l7. This work, which was completed in
December 1976, covered all flooding sources affecting the City of
Brush.
