P.E <br />Dire<:lor, eweB <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board Members <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />Larry Lang <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />May 12, 1995 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Agenda Item 4b, May 22-23, 1995, Board Meeting -- <br />45-Day Notice for the Designation and Approval of Approximate Floodplain <br />Information contained in the report entitled "Floodplain Information Report, <br />Volumes I, II, III and IV, for the Yampa, White, Gunnison and Colorado mainstem <br />Rivers", dated March, 1995. <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />Agenda Item 4b includes all 4 volumes of an approximate floodplain study <br />proposed for designation and approval by the CWCR The study was prepared by CWCB staff <br />with funding from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation as part of the Recovery Implementation <br />Program for Endangered Fish Species in the Upper Colorado River Basin. AIthollgh the study <br />was conducted to assist public and private entities involved in the management of native and non- <br />native fish in the Upper Colorado River Basin, the approximate floodplain information can be <br />used for other purposes more directly related to floodplain management. It will be presented to <br />the Board at the July 1995 meeting for designation and approval as approximate floodplain <br />information. The Board staff plans to request Board designation and approval under the <br />provisions of Rule 9.D.2, "Consideration at the Board's Initiative". <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service defined critical habitat for four species of <br />endangered fish on the mainstem of the Colorado River in Colorado and on three of its tributaries <br />in Colorado as follows: <br /> <br />~ <br />
