A Slate of disaster and emergency declaration \\'as issued by the T dler County Board of
Commissioners on Saturday. July 17. Due to continued heavy rains the following week.
the emergency status was extended. The declarution pemlits the county access to
approximately $500.000 in contingency funds to repair damages caused by the flooding.
However. r.:ount~ oflkials including memhers of the Division of L.ocal Affairs and the
Teller Count~ DUI arc estimating repairs and mitigation costs to date will more than
Lriple that amount.

Teller County Administrator. Greg \\'inklcr. told a reporter for the Ute Pass Courier at a
press conference. "In my 15 years here I've not sl,;'en this much damage:' Jean Garren.
Senior Planner for Teller County listed estimated countywide damages in the
neighhorhood of $1.6 million. Of that ligure. repair costs in the Turkey Rock
Subdivision alone including the dams and roadways along Turkey Creek Dri\.e. Ruby
Drj\.e at Lake Taylor. Dennis Orin:. and Appleby Drhe. total SI.I 3..t.000. o\"~r 70% of
the toral ~stimated cost of repairs. Because many of the dams and the dri\"e\'...ays in the
Turk.e~ Rock Subdi\ision were not constructed by Teller County. the county is not
\\il1ing to pay for the reconstruction of non-county dams and driveways that were
damaged by the July flooding. The County believes the homeo\\ners of the subdi\'ision
should re-build thl,;' dams used for landscaping in the neighborhood.
