ARAPAHOE COUNTY, COLORADO
FLOOD RISK DIRECTORY
SEPTEMBER 3,'991

DESCRIPT3:l:lN

INTRODUCTION

This directory was developed for the Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA), Region VIII. The purpose of the flood
risk directory is to identify struct.ures loca.ted wi thin FEMA-
established flood hazard areas of Ar.~paho'e County, Colorado. The
directory identifies the address(~s and physic,:!l characteristics
of properties that are subject to floodin';J from the 100-year
flood.

AUTHORITY ~rD ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

This "pi.lot survey" was conducted by 'the Oma,ha District Corps
of Engineers, (COE) in accordance with a 1 August: 1990 task letter
from FEMA, Region VIII, as part of the FEJI1A/COE Community
Assistance Program.

SCOPE OF STUDY

This flood risk directory was dE~veloJ?ed as a pilot survey to
affirm the methodology, ti.me, and cost nel~essary for such a
project. The information presented in this directory was
developed from a "windshield" reconnaissance survey conducted in
July 1990. The survey was accomplished by two individuals--one
who drove and interpreted the flood plain and one who entered the
data into a lap-top computer. Descriptions of the data fields,
as they are configured for the data base, are shown in Table 1.
All structures inventoried for the flood lrisk directory are shown
in Table 2.

During the survey, the flood boundaries were scrutinized
against the lay of the land from differen1: points of view. Once
the flood boundary was verified, the stru(~tUrE!S were identified
and the necessary data were entered into the computer. The
following "Data Dictionary" defines (!ach lcielcl of information
