through Martin I'ark, Design Engineer for the design of 100-year channel improvements through a public park,
Martin Park in southwest Boulder and an elementary school campus, Martin Elementary School. The challenge was to
design 100-year flond channel improvements while improving stormwater quality from multiple storm sewers which
discharged directly into Bear Canyon Creek. Our design was to design a stormwater quality pond to which the 24-inch
storm sewer discharged. The stormwatcr quality pond included a forebay where the initial discharge of debris and
sediment would occur prior to filling the remaining portion of the basin. This forebay would be cleaned on an as-
needed basis. The pond would then discharge at historic rates back into Bear Canyon Creek The channel
improvements included construction of three new boulder drop structures, the repair of two existing drop structures and
the constmction of;1 boulder lined low flow channel.
Supervised and dcsl,o;ned an II-acre wetland creation/replacement project at the CU Research Park. The Research Park
is a 160-acre parcel which has been designed to create 10 large commercial office building development sites. The
Rcscarch Park cOlll"incd a 9-acre wetland which was destroyed and created/restored on the north end of the park site.
This wetland also "wed as a stormwater quality treatment basin as well as flood storage for Boulder Creek. The
newly created ll-al'rc wetland \vas based upon the construction of 4 large ponds, 40 different types of vegetation were
planted along the k,nks of the lakes and \vithin the lakes under water. This wetland was recognized as being a model
