<br />PROCEDURES FOR COMPLIANCE <br />WITH HOODWAY REGULATIONS <br /> <br />1. Introduction <br /> <br />1-1. Purpose. This document is designed to assist municipal r <br />administering local regulations based on the requirements of the <br />Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). More specifically, it provides guir <br />procedures for reviewing development proposals to ensure compli <br />local fioodway regulations. It also contains information conCE <br />process and procedure for officially revising floodplain and f100dwa <br />tions and for modifying base flood elevations. <br /> <br />The document will also serve as a useful reference guide for <br />developers and property owners wishing to develop within d <br />floodplain and fioodway areas. The criteria, requirements and p <br />described can be used as the basis for preparing the type informatir <br />for local review and, if necessary, for review by the Federal E <br />Management Agency (FEMA). <br /> <br />1-2. Report Organization. The report begins with an overvil <br />National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), a description of general <br />ment procedures, an explanation of the fioodplain maps and bo <br />elevation data generated through the NFIP, and a description of t <br />dures for locating development relative to an identified fioodplair <br />on, the report includes a discussion of three possible encroachmer <br />resulting from proposed development within identified fioodways, <br />tion of six selected types of f100dway development and some <br />considerations and submittal requirements for each, and an expli <br />the information and analyses which are needed to evaluate and, <br />floodway impacts. The report concludes with an explanation of th <br />ments and procedures for requesting floodway revisions and a brief r <br />of development in unregulated f1oodways. <br />
