<br />A meeting was held in the City of Thornton on April 16, 1977, among <br />the study contractor, the FIA, and city officials to discuss the <br />preliminary results and study procedures. <br /> <br />A final community coordination meeting was held on July 25, 1977, <br />to discuss the results of the study, and was attended by personnel <br />of the study contractor, the FIA, and the City of Thornton. No <br />changes or corrections were required as a result of this meeting. <br /> <br />2.0 AREA STUDIED <br /> <br />2.1 Scope of Study <br /> <br />This Flood Insurance Study covers the geographic area of Adams <br />County, Colorado, including incorporated towns and ci ties, except <br />communities which fall within more than one county as described in <br />Section 1.1. <br /> <br />The streams studied by detailed methods were taken directly from <br />previous Flood Insurance Studies covering Adams County and <br />Incorporated Areas, and are shown in Table I (References 2 through <br />11) . <br /> <br />For streams <br />multi-county <br />Westminster, <br />described in <br />communities. <br /> <br />studied in detail and located entirely within the <br />communities of Arvada, Aurora, Broomfield, and <br />the flooding and hydrologic and hydraulic data are <br />separately published Flood Insurance Studies for these <br /> <br />The areas studied by detailed methods were selected with priority <br />given to all known flood hazards and areas of projected development <br />or proposed construction. <br /> <br />Streams studied using approximate methods include First, Second, <br />and Third Creeks, West Box Elder Creek, Kiowa Creek, Wolf Creek, <br />West Bijou Creek, Middle Bijou Creek, East Bijou Creek, Muddy <br />Creek, Brantner Gulch, Grange Hall Creek, Todd Creek, Lost Creek, <br />portions of Box Elder Creek, Wolf Creek, and Comanche Creek, Niver <br />Creek, Niver Creek Tributaries Land M, and the upstream portion of <br />Northfield Creek through the City of Thornton were also to be <br />studied in detail; but, after some preliminary calculations showed <br />the 100-year floodplain width to be less than 200 feet wide, the <br />FIA recommended a change from detailed to approximate study <br />methods. Clear Creek (Reference 12) and Little Dry Creek <br />(Reference 13), which were studied previously by the UDFCD through <br />the City of Westminster, were included as approximate study areas. <br /> <br />Approximate analyses were used to study <br />development potential or minimal flood <br />methods of study were proposed to, and <br />Adams County. <br /> <br />those areas having a <br />hazards.
