The lower
Clear Creek mainstream has been divided into five channel reaches for the
purpose of this study, as illustrated in Figure 11-1. The study area is des-
cribed in detail on a reach-by-reach basis starting with the most upstream
reach. The designated stationing refers to the channel reference line of the
Lower Cl ear Creek Maj or Ora inageway drawings.

Study Reach IlIA consists of a 2.1 mile segment of lower Clear Creek from
WadsllOrth Boulevard to 800 feet upstream (west) of Kipl ing Street, located
within the jurisdiction of Wheat Ridge. This segment of the Creek is charac-
terized by a narrow floodplain, (averaging 600 feet in width) and four resi-
dential/commercial encroactment areas on the floodplain fringe. The Creek is
crossed by West 44th Avenue and Kipl ing Street.

STUDY REACH IlIB (800 FEET UPSTREAM (WEST) OF KIPLING STREET TO THE WHEAT
RIDGE CORPORATION LIMITS) STA 559+00 to STA 658+00

Problan areas located within the floodpl ain are identified as: commercial
structures west of WadsllOrth between Clear Creek and 1-70: residential struc-
tures on both sides of West 45th PI ace between Carr and Everett; a footbridge
across Clear Creek near Carr Street, residential structures on both sides of
the Creek between West 44th Avenue and Kipl ing: Kipl ing Street overtopped by
greater than 18 inches by the 100-year flood; and, residential and commercial
structures west of Kipl ing and south of Clear Creek.

Study Reach IlIB consists of a 1.8 mile streifTI segment from 800 feet upstream
(west) of Kipl ing to the western 1 imits of the study (Wheat Ridge corporate
1 imits), located within the City of Wheat Ridge. Clear Creek is not crossed
by any streets in this segment, except for 1-70 and Youngfield at the western
study 1 im its.

STUDY REACH lIB (FROM 1,400 FEET UPSTREAM OF THE DENVER & RIO GRANDE WESTERN
RAILROAD TO WADSWORTH BOULEVARD) STA 272+30 to 449+00

The area from Kipl ing to Youngfield is characterized by a narrow floodplain,
(averag ing 600 feet in width) with few structural encroactments. M:Jst of the
floodplain is under the control of Wheat Ridge, either by ownership or lease
for park, recreation and open space purlXlses. There are no plans for flood-
plain fill or future urban structures in this study segment.

Study Reach lIB consists of a 3.3 mile segment of Clear Creek from 1,400 feet
upstream of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad to WadsllOrth Boulevard,
and is located within the jurisdiction of Adans County with small segments
located within Wheat Ridge, Arvada, and Jefferson County.

Problan areas within this reach are 1 imited to 2 residential and 10 accessory
buildings, and a footbridge across Clear Creek at Prospect Park, within the
100-year floodpl ain.

This subreach is defined by the construction of 1-76 and related channel iza-
tion of portions of this segment of Clear Creek by the Colorado State Divi-
sion of Highways. The Creek and floodplain are crossed by the proposed 1-76,
Lowell Boulevard, Tennyson Street, 1-76, Sheridan Boulevard, West 52nd Ave-
nue, Marshall Street, 1-70, and WadsllOrth Boulevard.
