It flows north for approximately 1.8 miles and then turns to the east at Franklin
Street for 0.5 mile. At North 7th Avenue, the 4itch flows north again for about 0.5 mile and
then turns to the east at Pioneer Road. The ditch continues east for approximately 2 miles
before its confluence with the South Platte River. Pioneer Ditch has bridge or culvert crossings
(listed from upstream to downstream) at the Burlington Northern Railroad, Phelps Street, State
Highway 14, Franklin Street and North 7th Avenue, Pioneer Road and North 7th Avenue,
Sidney Avenue, the north- and south-bound lanes of U.S. Highway 138, the Burlington
Northern Railroad again, and the Union Pacific Railroad. Constrictions occur at many of the
bridge structures, and channel capacity is limited. Significant flooding can occur at relatively
frequent events.

2
