15. REVISION OF PRO~ECT PLAII.- Control of FountaIn Creek floods
by Fountain R"servoir ~.ould reduce design flows for 100-year protection
on the Arkansas River frolJl l'ueblo to the r.louth of Apishapa River. The
desicnof the proposed cha"neli:ationproject presented in Appen dix,\
has been revised accordIngly. The principal ch<lngeis the reduction
in bottoOl width of the channel from Pueblo to the Apishapa River. The
aligTlll\entandgradientshavenotbeenchanged,andthewatersurface
profiles remain approximately the same. This reduction in channel
capacity substantially reduces the cost of excavation, rights-of-way,
and modification of highway and railroad bridges and irrigation diver-
sion structures. Except for changes in the design of the project
through the ~ Junta urhan are,., which are described in a st1b;~q,,'>nt
paragraph, other elements of the revised plan of improvement rcma~n
essentially as described in Appendix A. The major revisions in the
plan of improvement are tahulated in Tables 6, 7, and 8.

16. LA J~o/TA UREAN AREA.- An e~cavated channel with concrete-
lined side slopes, similar in section to other reaches of the Arkansas
Rivcr channclizatlon plan, would be constructed through the La Junta
reach. The deSIgn discharge with Founuin Reservoir Project ill opera-
of 310 years. TheLaJuntareachrecollllllendedinAppendnA,designed
to discharge the standard project flood, conSisted of a concrete-lined
channel 800~900 feet WIde, WIthout concrete lining, channel ~idths
necessary to pass th,S discharge would result in prohihitive rIght-of-
